Hooligan Zoo

Two Zookeepers… many Hooligans… It's always feeding time at this zoo!

That big yellow bus looked awfully appealing today…

on September 17, 2009

Do you ever have one of those days when you wake up 45 minutes before the alarm goes off?  The very very early alarm?  And you have a headache, and know that you need to take something so that you can at least not be in pain while attending to the needs of the day?

Yah.  I had a day like that today.

You know, I love homeschooling, I really really do, but sometimes… sometimes… I wish that I could put them on that big yellow bus and have a cup of tea in silence.  Or take a nap!!  Yes.  Naps are REALLY nice.

My lovely, smart, intelligent and stubborn as a mule son has started doing more than just basic math and reading.  Just a little bit more…  Nothing too huge.  Maybe an extra book to learn to narrate, that kind of thing.

Today?  Everything was too hard.  Quarter Mile Math was too hard.  Reading was too hard.  Listening was too hard, and, as a result, apparently being respectful and obedient was also too hard.

We’ve had plenty of hard days trying to find our “groove” but today really made me look longingly out the window as that big yellow bus drove by the house.  While I love homeschooling our hooligans, I don’t really get much of a break.  I am “on” all the time.  Frankly, some days it is exhausting.  Most days it’s exhausting.

And yet… and yet… I have this hope, this feeling that this is still the right thing to do.

And tomorrow?  Tomorrow I will get up and do it all over again.

But I still might look at that bus with a wee bit of longing….

I have more than respect for you and pray that today is better. After seeing 4 of my, homeschooled, grown cousins I know that you are doing the best thing possible for your children and in approximately 5400 days you will be finished and you will not regret it. Now if only I can grow some balls and homeschool myself. You inspire me!

rotfl. love it. my son has a special way of making something like QMMath look hard, too! (And he’s in 9th grade, now) Oh well. I can take my coffee and hide out now that mine are older:) Hang in there! (My four yr old is the youngest and I actually am starting to realize it does go by fast). I was snuggling with her this morning…and my sister called to tell me her 5 yr. old has to go to school at 7:30. Really?? That sounds so yuck to me. I’d have to meet the bus that early? I MUST be a genius! Anyway, I’ll put you in for the book, nice to “meet” you. Love your site. Heather
